Choose a reputable roofer – use an NFRC contractor
It goes without saying that the roof over your head is one of the most important parts of your business, protecting your company assets from the elements. So keeping it well maintained is vital, and when work needs doing, you need to know you’re using a contractor you can trust. Whether you need a repair, a new roof, or are replacing an existing roof, using an NFRC member to do the work will give you peace of mind as well as a weatherproof roof.
What are the benefits?
Vetted contractors
All NFRC member contractors are carefully vetted before they are accepted into membership. This means that their past contracts are inspected and the level of craft skills, technical competence and financial stability are all taken into account, to ensure that the company carries out high standards of workmanship and gives a good service. Put simply, the vetting criteria includes:
·
A minimum period of responsible trading
· Inspections of past contracts to check quality
· Public, Employers’ and Third Party Insurance cover
· Inspection of craft skills and technical competence in the types
of roofing offered
· Compliance with Health and Safety legislation
· Compliance with the NFRC Code of Practice, as well as British
Standards and other technical Codes of Practice
This stringent entry procedure means that you will be using a reputable roofer and not a cowboy.
Code of Practice
The NFRC’s Code of Practice sets out strict guidelines which members must adhere to in order to ensure that workmanship standards and business practices are maintained to a high level. In addition, all work must be carried out in accordance with the relevant British and European Standards and Codes of Practice.
Quotes, estimates and value for money
NFRC members will offer clients technical and contractual advice in plain English. Once the contractor has investigated the technical aspects of the job and considered the possible courses of action, you will receive a clearly written quote or estimate, giving a fair price for the work and setting out conditions of contract. They will also show whether VAT is applicable, and if so, it will be stated at the given rate.
Safe working practices
To keep members up to date on recent and upcoming health and safety legislation, the NFRC offers a Health and Safety Advisory Service. In addition, they must be covered by Public, Employers’ and Third Party liability insurance.
Technical and business support
In addition to ensuring that a firm meets its high entry criteria, the NFRC is equally keen to make sure these standards are maintained. In order to do this I aims to keep its members up to date on all the latest issues that affect them, from technical and training help, to product information or legal and health and safety advice.
Its free Technical Advisory Service is available to clients of NFRC members as well as to the members themselves, should you need any clarification on products, design and usage. It also provides important information on British Standards Regulations. It is supplemented by a comprehensive series of publications for both contractors and clients.
What if something goes wrong?
In the event of a dispute between an NFRC contractor and their client, a free and impartial conciliation and arbitration procedure operates to ensure that any problems are dealt with quickly and fairly. Complaints are investigated by the secretary of the NFRC region in which the work was carried out.
This means that a member who does not abide by the findings of an arbitration procedure may face expulsion from the Federation and the loss of their status as a registered NFRC member. However, using this service does not preclude either party from exercising their legal rights.
